SUMMARY:70 years after the death
DESCRIPTION:Some years ago, copyright laws used to affect mostly the publishing industry and few others. Since Internet became widespread, however, they entered our everyday lives. Every day, we all not only use, but also produce and share creative works, from Instagram pictures to Wikipedia articles.
 
 It is no surprise then that the new European copyright directive, approved in March 2019, has been one of the most controversial in the whole term.
 
 The two most criticized parts are article 15, the so-called "link tax", introducing new restrictions on quoting news articles; and article 17, the "upload filter", paving the way for a preemtive filtering of user generated contents. The directive, however, says much more - including something good!
 
 During the talk we will discuss what is really written - or not written - in the directive; how it will impact the way in which we use the net; and what still has to be decided.
